Exam Purpose
In addition to providing a method for evaluating medical genetics knowledge, the ABMGG ITE serves several purposes:
- Identifies ABMGG trainees at risk for not succeeding on the ABMGG certification examination while still in training with time for additional programmatic and self-directed learning.
- Targets didactics within a given program on areas where the trainees as a group are weak.
- Provides national performance measurements, by which trainees can compare their scores.
Important Dates:
- January 10, 2025 – Registration deadline (without late fee)
- January 22, 2025 – Late registration deadline (with $100 late fee per examinee)
- February 12 & 13, 2025 – ITE administration
Please note the 2025 administration will only be offered in person.
Eligible Examinees:
Eligible test takers include residents and fellows currently enrolled in a training program in clinical genetics and genomics, clinical biochemical genetics, laboratory genetics and genomics, and the subspecialty of medical biochemical genetics.
Program directors and coordinators should register their trainees for the ITE in the Trainee Management section of the ABMGG portal. Programs must also be registered as a site along with registration of trainees. Email instructions were sent detailing the registration process. Questions should be directed to ABMGG@abmgg.org
