A clinically inactive status means a diplomate has not participated for the last 24 months in ANY patient care activities and/or clinical laboratory activities including direct, consultative, or clinical supervision involving medical decision-making.
Diplomates who are recognized by ABMGG as clinically inactive in their specialty but maintaining certification will be exempt from the Practice Improvement requirement but must complete all other components of the Continuing Certification Program.
Examples: Teaching, administrative, public health activities, and non-patient care related consulting or research.
