The American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Darrel Waggoner, MD, as its new Associate Chief Executive Officer, effective March 24, 2025.

Dr. Waggoner received his MD from Washington University in St. Louis, then completed pediatric residency and was appointed Chief Resident at the University of Chicago. After completing Clinical Genetics training and a postdoctoral research fellowship at Washington University he joined the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Chicago, where he was the Medical Director for the Department. Dr. Waggoner served as Program Director for both the Medical Genetics and Clinical Laboratory Fellowship programs. In addition, he was the director for genetic courses in the medical, undergraduate, and graduate school.
Dr. Waggoner has been an active contributor to numerous professional organizations, including the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG), the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG), and the Association of Professors of Human and Medical Genetics (APHMG). He was elected to the ABMGG Board of Directors and was involved in the development of continuing certification programs, including CertLink. Dr. Waggoner also served as the ABMGG Treasurer, on the ABMGG Continuing Certification Committee, and as the Board representative to the ACMG Continuing Certification Committee.
Since 2021, Dr. Waggoner has continued to facilitate item and exam development for the ABMGG. The ABMGG welcomes him back in this new role.
