Change in General Examination Requirement – Structure and Schedule

The ABMGG Board of Directors has approved a change in the administration schedule and structure of the General examination.

Starting with the 2025 administration, the number of questions on the General exam will decrease will decrease from 126 to 100, and the exam duration will be shortened to 120 minutes.

Additionally, the General examination will now be offered on all three days of the administration period, providing greater flexibility for candidates. When scheduling, candidates can choose to sit for both the General and specialty exams on the same day or take them separately, sitting for the General exam on an alternate date during the administration window.

The new schedule is as follows:

  • August 12, 13, and 14, 2025 – General
  • Tuesday, August 12, 2025 – Clinical Genetics and Genomics
  • Wednesday, August 13, 2025 – Clinical/Medical Biochemical Genetics
  • Thursday, August 14, 2025 – Laboratory Genetics and Genomics

Please note, this includes a change in the Clinical/Medical Biochemical Genetics examination date from Monday, August 11 to Wednesday, August 13. No examinations will be offered on Monday, August 11.
